PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS
When I was a little kid reading comic books my eye was always drawn to those small areas where the colours on the newsprint were just a little bit misaligned or where an outline was slightly off. I am not sure why, but I simply enjoyed that little randomness I suppose. The tiny things, or little 'accidents' that make perfect somewhat more alive – to me any way. Working with different aspects of design for my whole life (and using computers for the most part) I find that those little imperfections have become rarer. But with pottery they come with the territory. No two pieces are ever the same. The clay dries differently, the shapes are affected by the extreme temperatures in the kiln and the glazes have a life of their own. But this is exactly as it should be.
